Baldwin Huang

Baldwin (in red) on a hike in British Columbia.

If you dropped by our BCMOS hiking program this summer you likely ran into Baldwin, one of our most dedicated hiking volunteers. New to us this summer, he was eager to help out with our program at Pacific Spirit Park. Baldwin’s consistency and positive attitude has ensured that all of our hikes run smoothly.

Once summer rolled around, Baldwin had a bit more time on his hands and he wanted to give back to the community. He said “I knew that I was free during the summer and I had heard about the Disability Foundation from one of my courses. All of the societies that were under the Disability Foundation were doing really incredible things so I wanted to get involved. BCMOS ended up being the perfect one for me to just get out and meet people during the pandemic!”

Although Baldwin was clearly a natural when it came to our adaptive TrailRiders, he mentioned “Prior to BCMOS and the Disability foundation, I didn’t have much exposure to people with disabilities. Coming out to volunteer has helped me understand disabilities more, even if ever so slightly.” He also explained that volunteering at BCMOS was a good change of pace compared to the long term care home he also volunteered at.

Baldwin offered his sentiment towards our hiking program saying “BCMOS provides an important perspective. You can help clients get out in nature and do what they enjoy!” He added “Getting around and interacting with all kinds of people while being in nature is amazing!”

All of us at BCMOS want to express our gratitude to you Baldwin. We are so thankful to have you at our hiking program. Your team-player and calm attitude has helped everyone feel comfortable and happy. Thank you for everything you do!
